A writing test that shows how each answer was written.
You send a candidate two or three questions. They write the answers in their browser. You read the answers, with what was typed, what was pasted and when they left the page marked on the text.
How to use it
- Write a role. Two or three questions, a time limit if you want one, and a word limit for each answer.
- Invite candidates. Paste their names and emails. Each candidate gets a link, writes on a computer, and is told what is recorded before they start.
- Read the reports. Each one opens with what happened, then the answers with the evidence marked on them. Mark it checked when you have read it, or share it with a link.
How it works
The answer box records the writing as it happens:
- each key press and when it happened, and each change to the text
- what was pasted
- when the candidate left the page, and for how long
It does not record the screen, the camera or other tabs. When the candidate submits, a text classifier also scores how likely the text is to be written by AI; the report shows that score beside the typing evidence, never alone. The privacy page says in full what is recorded and how long it is kept.
By Hand never gives a pass or a fail. A pasted quote can be fair, and a pause can be thinking. The report shows what happened, and you decide what it means.
